    Fichtner India extended pre bid services to ABB & BHEL and subsequently executed the Detailed Engineering Services for ABB Ltd & BHEL for three HVDC Converter Stations located in Biswanath Chariali in Assam, Alipurduar in West Bengal and Agra in Uttar Pradesh along with Repeater Stations for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. North East Agra power ‘superhighway’ is world’s first multi-terminal UHVDC transmission system with 6000 MW UHVDC link operating at 800 kilovolts (kV).

    Design and detailed engineering was carried out as per IS code and detailing was implemented to the special technical requirement as per ABB standards. The scope of work included all buildings and structures made of concrete, steel structures, equipment foundations including ground improvement by the use of stone columns.

    The Chennai Water Desalination Ltd. (CWDL), a special purpose vehicle of IVRCL Infrastructure & Projects Ltd and Befesa Agua of Spain, was created in 2005 to design, build, own and operate the seawater desalination plant for the Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB). In September 2005, the CMWSSB signed a bulk water purchase agreement with CWDL to purchase water from the plant. At the end of the 25-year agreement, the plant will be transferred to the Government of Tamil Nadu.

    With an installed capacity to produce 100 million liters of drinking water per day (MLD), it is the largest such plant in operational in India. Befesa Spain had entrusted the work of Detailed Engineering services to Fichtner India.

    Corporate Ispat Alloys Ltd (CIAL), part of Abhijeet group was establishing 50 MW solar plant using Parallel Solar Parabolic Trough fields (SPTF’s) with tracking system based on technology provided by Ener-T International, Israel, in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan India. Fichtner India was engaged by CIAL as the Owner's Engineer to check and approve the EPC contractor’s documents and assist CIAL in commissioning the plant. The scope involves limited review of solar technology, and complete review of BOP works.

    Fichtner India executed the assigned scope with due diligence and processed the documents submitted to enable uninterrupted construction at site as well as procurement works. Site has progressed considerably in civil front as well as erection of solar panels and some of the critical components of solar field. Presently project is under HOLD.

    Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC), is developing a new thermal power station of 2 x 500 MW capacity, to replace its ageing 600 MW TPS in Neyveli. Balance of Plant NTA3 package covering raw water treatment and de-mineralization plant of capacity 45.14 MLD, was entrusted to Essar Projects Limited as EPC and to Wipro Enterprises Limited (Wipro Water) was their sub-contractor.

    Fichtner India carried out the design and detailed engineering of the complete water treatment plant system package including pre-treatment units, de-mineralization plant and softening plant structures to WIPRO, which includes special structure like “W” shaped tube settler of size 30.4 m x 31 m x 6.4 m etc. The job was completed successfully and all the design and drawings were cleared by NLC well in time. The plant is under erection.

    TUAS Singapore entrusted the work of setting of 2x385MW single shaft, gas fired Combined Cycle Power Plant of Stage –II, block 3 & 4 extension to MHI Japan.

    Fichtner India carried out the design and detailed engineering of Architectural, Civil and Structural works of the power plant directly to MHI Japan. Design and detailed engineering were carried out as per Singapore and British code. The scope of work included design and detailed engineering of concrete and steel structures, static and dynamic foundations including bored cast in situ piles and pre cast pile foundations etc.

    Job was taken at a time when the BS-5950, 2000 was issued for implementation just a week before the start of the project. Fichtner India took the challenge of implementing the latest code with its limit state design method, even though the design software package did not supported built up sections at that time. Fichtner India customized design spread sheet to handle design of all built-up sections for all load combinations to ensure smooth integration with STAAD design output of the whole structure. The job was completed successfully and all the design and drawings were cleared by Govt. of Singapore well ahead of stipulated time. Plant is in operation.
